The Nam Khan Ecolodge: A Sustainable Stay in Luang Prabang, Laos
Trying to book a unique stay in Luang Prabang? The eco-focused glamping at the Nam Khan Ecolodge might just be the accommodation of your dreams.
Sat along the banks of the Nam Khan lies an eco-friendly stay that serves travellers as a serene getaway from central Luang Prabang. The Nam Khan Ecolodge focuses on sustainability while maintaining a sense of luxury. Not only is the ecolodge an earth-minded accommodation, but it’s also unique in that it offers riverside glamping— a first-of-its-kind in Luang Prabang. In this post, I’m sharing all the details of my stay at the Nam Khan Ecolodge, and why it might be the stay you’ve been searching for.
Where is nam khan ecolodge ↴
Nam Khan Ecolodge is located away from central Luang Prabang. This is part of the appeal of the ecolodge— knowing that it is a truly secluded setting for rest and respite. However, adventure travellers who are hoping to be based in the central part of Luang Prabang might find it a bit further from the main attractions than what’s ideal.
Just outside the gates of the Nam Khan Ecolodge, there are local shops and a village temple. While there are a limited number of things for you to explore nearby, the property brings activities to you so that it doesn’t feel like you’re missing out on anything. If, however, you seriously want to leave the premises and head to town, there is a shuttle that runs from the ecolodge to the main street (and vice versa) three times a day: morning, noon, and night. This makes it easier to get into town, but you’ll have to stick to the ecolodge’s shuttle schedule or be forced to pay a steep tuk-tuk fee.
room options + packages ↴
Whether you’re looking at booking a glamping tent, villa, or traditional suite, rest assured you can do no wrong. All room options come with environmentally-mindful toiletries, herbal teas, linen robes and slippers, and daily housekeeping. It’s really just about what kind of room you’re looking for because the ecolodge truly offers them all.
⛺ glamping tents
Glamping tents are available along the Nam Khan with private outdoor jacuzzis, hot showers, in-tent desk + wardrobe, and a fan for those sticky Lao nights. I stayed in one of the new glamping tents, and it was one of the best nights’ nights of sleep I had had in a while. The sounds of nature lulled me to sleep and the glow of early morning light gently woke me.
🛀 villa
The ecolodge’s villa, sometimes referred to as the Art Villa, features a large terrace that is perfect for sun lounging. With an outdoor bathtub, a fully-equipped kitchen, and air conditioning, the villa is a seriously luxurious stay surrounded by nature without being totally enveloped in it.
🛌 suites
Located near the restaurant and organic farm area, there are two suites available. These rooms are more like traditional resort rooms, with artistic touches. The suites are spacious and showcase Lao design, featuring handcrafted furniture. One of the suites is actually built on stilts, hillside with a rear view of the Nam Khan. Suites are uniquely designed, but they both include a large double bed, desk, bathtub, double vanity sink, and a steamy hot shower.

amenities + activities at the nam khan ecolodge ↴
One of the biggest surprises to me about the Nam Khan Ecolodge was the sheer size of the property and all of the amenities and facilities that existed throughout it. Just steps away from our glamping tent was an open-air gym complete with free weights, machines, and punching bags. Near the gym were rattan ball and sand volleyball courts for travellers who like to be social and active. The ecolodge’s playground made of upcycled materials, outdoor cinema, and games area make it ideal for families looking to keep little ones busy.
Alongside the facilities available, were the exciting on-site activities! Horseback riding, river kayaking, cooking classes, morning yoga, and weaving workshops were just a few of the many activities available to book via the reception desk. We were lucky enough to participate in a weaving workshop, a Lao cooking class, and a traditional Baci ceremony while staying at the Nam Khan Ecolodge! The cooking class included enough food to feed an army and our weaving workshop allowed us to create handmade souvenirs as mementoes of our travels.

The menu at the ecolodge’s restaurant offers a creative mix of Lao cuisine and western food all made with delicious, organic ingredients from the on-site farm. The farm is part of the ecolodge’s commitment to more sustainable tourism. We often saw the kitchen staff running to the garden to grab a handful of spring onion during our stay. Witnessing how fresh the ingredients were, made us extra excited to eat. It also made the food taste more flavourful. The inclusive menu has vegan and gluten-free options! The spicy bean salad was a favourite of mine and Luke thoroughly enjoyed the large breakfast each morning, which included a peanut butter banana smoothie.
